Providing therapy is very sedentary job and for many therapists poses issues for their own body weight management.

It is important the this is understood early on in peoples careers so that preventative action can be taken and good exercise habits established.

Psychological aspects of therapist weight gain[]

From a psychodynamic perspective using a feeding metaphor, therapists may be seen as giving out, feeding their clients emotionally and can become depleted in this process over time. Attempts to "refuel" and "refill" the reserves can lead to comfort eating, poor food choice etc which can contribute to these difficulties further.
