Vygotsky blocks are a set of 32 wooden blocks used extensively by Lev Vygotsky in his studies of concept formation and thinking. Although they were named after him he credited his collegue L.S. Sakarov with their development.

A Vygotsky test employs the full set of blocks. They differ in colour, hieght shape and width and on the underside of each is a nonsense word. In the standardized design there are four words, one for each group of blocks (tall wide/ low wide/ tall thin/ low thin), Colour and shape are incidental.
