Urogenital disorders or genitourinary disorders are disorders of the urogenital system. These disorders include a range of disorders, from those that are asymptomatic, to those that manifest an array of signs and symptoms. Causes for these disorders include congenital disorders, infectious diseases, trauma, or conditions that secondarily involve the urinary structure.
Psychologists are interested in these conditions on several counts:
- To what degree are these conditions caused, facilitated or exacerbated by psychological factors etc.
- To what degree are people's willingness to seek and comply with treatment affected by psychological issues around these disorders
- What are the psychological effects of these disorders. How do people cope with feelings of [shame]], guilt around the condition and their accompanying symptoms
