The UK National Occupational Standards for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are currently being developed and the first round of consulktation ended in Dec 2008.
As part of the new move to regulate the profession through the UK Health Professions Council it has become necessary to develop a clear statement of the clinical competences of each of the professions. Towards this end UK Skills for Health, the BPS and other organizations have been developing UK National Occupational Standards for Psychological Therapies. The standards for CBT are part of this program.
The standards were originally based on the work of Roth & Pilling
One aspect of writing these standards is to produce standards that reflect the different levels of experience and training (both practical and theoreticl) of todays varied deliverers of CBT (eg clinical psychologists, graduate mental health workers, nurses, nurse behavior therapists, psychiatrists etc.
