The National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU) in the UK will be set up from April 1 2009 to take over the national function of NIHME while the regional functions will be taken up by the Strategic Health Authories.
NMHDU will provide national support to implement mental health policy through its specialist expertise in priority areas, sharing best practice and co-ordinating national activity to support regional and local implementation.
The 10 Strategic Health Authorities will oversee regional and local delivery of mental health services and the work previously undertaken by the NIMHE Regional Development Centres.
