Thiothixene (sold as Navane®) is a thioxanthene drug used as a typical antipsychotic medication. It is a thioxanthene derivative and is the cis isomer of N,Ndimethyl-
9-[3-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-propylidene] thioxanthene-2-sulfonamide.
Although widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia for several decades, thiothixene is seldom used today in favor of atypical antipsychotics such as olanzapine.
