Part of the rationale for the scientific wiki is to defray the costs to individuals and organisations of publishing and accessing the scientific literature.

Current models for providing this information are increasingly becoming prohibitive. Partly this is because of the proliferation of journals. On this site we are listing upward of 2000 of interest either because psychologically relevant information is contained in them or that psychologists publish in them on average every other issue. Most libraries cannot afford even a large proportion of these journals for economic reasons. While most individuals , unless they restrict their interests to a very narrow area are faced with subscribing to say 6 journals a year to comprehensively cover an area like memory or mental health
