The Psychoanalytic Review was founded in 1913 by William Alanson White and Smith Ely Jelliffe. It is now published under the auspices of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis and is the oldest, continuously published psychoanalytic journal in the United States.

It was a quite heterodox journal (as it still is) and was the first English-language analytic journal. Long after they had seceded from orthodox Freudianism the Review continued to publish translations of work by dissidents such as C. G. Jung and Alfred Adler.
