Wikipedia has a short article on Jules Henry. His book, Pathways to Madness describes visits he made to the homes of children who were in psychiatric hospitals with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, in which he observed pathogenic behavior. I believe he did the research for this book starting in the 1950s--if I remember rightly from reading it in 1980. This was around the same time Gregory Bateson was doing research on schizophrenia and developing his concept of double binding communication. Don't know if there was a connection between the two.
