A student teacher is college or graduate student who is practicing teaching under the supervision of a certified teacher in order to qualify for a degree in education.[1]

The term may also apply to teacher aides who include include graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) , who are graduate students who are not necessarily training to be teachers; undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs), who are undergraduate students.
