Scoring information

The scale consists of 17 items to assess attachment patterns as defined by Bartholomwe (1990) and 13 items to compute scales used by several researchers (Collins & Read, 1990; Feeney and Noller, 1990; Simpson, 1990). For the 17-item version, recode items 5, 7, 17. Both the original and recoded form of item 5 is used to compute scores for attachment patterns. Specifically, mean of items 3, 7, 8, 10, and 17 gives the secure attachment score, mean of items 1, 4, 9, and 14 gives the fearful attachment score, mean of items 5 (recoded), 6, 11, and 15 gives the preoccupied attachment score, and mean of items 2, 5 (original), 12, 13, and 16 gives the dismissing attachment score.
