Reading Motivation Questionnaire (RMQ) is a psychological test designed to assess one's extent of intrinsic (reading for own interest) and extrinsic (reading for other's interest) motivation to read the text books. It includes 7 subtests. Of them 3 subtests measure dimensions of intrinsic reading motivation (reading for Application, Knowledge, Achievement) and other 4 subtests measure dimensions of extrinsic motivation for reading (reading for Affiliation, Recognition and Harm avoidance). Questionnaire includes 42 statements (6 items X 7 dimensions) with one stem. For each stem, there are two statements with options –‘a’ or ‘b’. Respondent is to choose only one statement. Each statement is related to one of the dimension of reading motivation. The lowest score for each dimension is 0 and highest score is 6. It takes approximately half an hour to answer all the questions.

Test-retest reliability for reading motivation questionnaire (RMQ) of 72 students within 8 months interval ranged from 0.69 to 0.97. Cronbach's alpha coefficients of RMQ ranged from 0.61 to 0.66 for 902 students.
Concurrent validity was tested by correlating questionnaire with MRQ of Wigfield and Guthrie (1997) using product moment correlations. Reading for Application, Achievement and Harm avoidance reading motivation were significantly correlated with MRQ for 50 students.
Predictive validity was examined by correlating the scores of questionnaire with school examination results (n=200). Intrinsic reading motivation variables were positively and extrinsic reading motivation variables were negatively correlated with examination results.
