The Nature of Knowledge

To start out on this project I feel we have to get our epistemology right. Historically we have ended up with the psychology that reflects the assumptions and definitions we constructed as to what constitutes a basis for evidence and knowledge in our field. If you only allow objective behaviour you get behaviourism.

Over the past 50 years there have been a number of areas in which advances have been made that we perhaps need to integrate more tightly into the basis of our model. I am thinking here of:

What we do in clinical psychology, for many of us, is outside the strict cognitive paradigm and this is an opportunity to define this more clearly, to clarify the ways in which there is an existing evidence base, however disparate. To build a new base on which to mount a fresh program of research. Lifeartist 10:23, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
