Psychogenic amnesia is a form of amnesia popularized in popular culture, particularly film. Also called autobiographical amnesia, it is related to trauma or general psychological disorientation. The rarity of cases leaves some doubt as to whether or not psychogenic amnesia is a real phenomenon. If it is a true disorder, then it related to, autobiographical memory, in addition to episodic and declarative memory.
