Personal therapy is a specific term for psychotherapy undertaken by mental health professionals as an aid to professional and personal development. The rationale for this may be because of the need to treat mental health problems but usually the activity is entered into as a requirement of a training course (as in psychoanalytic training) or as an adjunct to professional education.

It may be seen as a way of developing reflective practice.
