Obsessional technique one of four defensive techniques of personality development identified by Ronald Fairbairn, the Scottish psychoanalyst. He suggested that where the good and bad objects have both been internalized and where this process is derailed by internal and external forces that people can become obsessional, experiencing them both as ego-dystonic forces that must be controlled.
