There are actually 5 known neuropeptide y receptors designated Y1 through Y5. They are g-protein coupled receptors of the 7-transmembrane receptor family.

The neuropeptide Y receptors actually act as receptors for NPY, PYY and pancreatic polypeptide which are a closely related group of peptides.
