Nerve endings are the terminals of the nerves in the outer boby. While there are some free nerve endings, many terminate with a peripheral structure, a end organ. These neural receptors include:
- Baroreceptors
- Chemoreceptors
- Mechanoreceptors
- Nocioceptors
- Photoreceptors
- Proprioceptors
- Thermoreceptors
The term may also mistakenly include the synapses where neurons terminate in other neurons.
