Malariotherapy is a physical treatment method involving the deliberate infection of a person with malaria in order to treat ailments such as cancer, Lyme disease and (more recentlyTemplate:Dated maintenance category) HIV. As of 2009Template:Dated maintenance category the treatments have proven unsuccessful, and have attracted criticism as both scientifically unsound and dangerous.[1] The United States Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have rejected malariotherapy and, along with health professionals and advocates for human rights, consider the practice "atrocious".[2][3]

Ernst Sträussler with neurologist Georg Koskinas (1885-1975) performed important studies involving malaria therapy as a type of physical treatment for dementia paralytica]].[4][5][6][7].
