Lipophilia
Lipophilia or fat fetishism, also called, and more elegantly expressed, as lipophilia involves the experience of fat, fat body parts, "fat pads" (Corpus adiposum), or just "fatness" as extremely sexually arousing and fulfilling. Lipophiliacs cite a heritage beginning in antiquity with the Venus of Willendorf and also expressed in Jean-Paul Ruben's paintings which have given the term "Rubenesque" to the culture of Fat Admirers and appreciators. Many lipophiliacs are social activists for the human rights and public accomodation of fat people. Many fat people prefer euphonyms such as "plus sized."
Earlier iterations of the DSM clasified lipophilia as a type of a paraphilia (lit., "beyond," [para] "love," [philia]), suggesting that the arousal is not rooted in loving friendship (philia) because it involves objectification (focusing on the "object" of the body, rather than the soul of the person). The criticism of "objectification" is unfair because it is equally possible – if not easier for most people -- to objectify the body of a skinny person, thin person, or "buff" person, “as it is to objectify the body of a fat person. The objectification of "fatness," leads lipophilia to be known colloquially as "fat fetishism," even though technically DSM-V does not literally classify lipophila as a "fetish," and is not even on the list of various paraphilia.
Lipophiliacs maintain an obsession with what is called corpos adiposum or "Fat pads," areas of body fat that are plump, sizeable, soft, and round. Thus the term "fat pads" describes the focus of the lipophiliac's obsession.
Lipophiliacs can be rhapsodic and highly aroused about fatness, roundness, softness, and large size of their partner's bodies, and, as well, the "folds" of fat (pannus) of their partners' bodies. Popularly these "folds" of fat are called "spare tires," and more favorably, "love handles." Lipophiliacs may also of course be attracted to many of the fat people they encounter in every day settings and situations, and in media represenations. Lipophiliacs experience significant attraction to people whose bodies are fat, large, round, and soft.
Some lipophiliacs may have particular obsessions such as fetishizing any or all of the following:
(1) fat bellies (including the Ischioanal-fossae perineum), including the positive appreciation of love handles,"
(2) fat buttocks,
(3) fat thighs (including the infrapatellar fad pad),
(4) fat calves,
(5) fat faces, cheeks, and necks (e.g., the buccal fat pad),
(6) fat arms,
(7) fat feet, etc.
It is the size, roundness, and softness of the fat person's body and body part swhich captivates the lipohiliac's appreciation and fetishizing ideas and behaviors. Lipophiliacs are also attracted to the way that their partners fat shaes, jiggles, and moves.
People with large bellies are sometimes called "love-handled." Essentially so-called "Fat Fetishists," or "lipophilacs" experience and idealize fat as a sign, symbol, and experience of Beauty, Majesty, and Fulfillment – these being perfect metaphors for lipophilia or "Fat Fetshism," which is ultimately an appreciation of plump magnitude, largness, softness, and size. Again, lipophilia is not technically a "fetish,"nor even designated as a paraphilia.
Ultimately, Fat Fetishists (lipophiliacs) are completely (please forgive the intended puns that follow)“in-"fat"-uated and seek em-"phat"-ically to attain significantly more than a "Fat Chance" at fully "phat" sexuality. The term "phat," meaning awesome, or cool has entered the culture from hip-hop as a variation on the word fat. Colloquially some people turn the word" phat" into an acronym for "pretty hot and tempting. This etymology and acronymic adaption suggests some of the cultural influence of Fat Admiration" on the mainstream culture.. Lipophia is a phenomenon that intersects with those who self-identify as being among "Fat Admirers" and "Fat Appreciators." Lipophilia is also related to such terms as "Fat Acceptance," "Feederism," "Big Beautiful Women," and "Big Beautiful Men." Sometimes the very adorable words "Chub," and "Chubby Chasers" are applied to this passion and obsession.
Lipophiliacs vary as to their preferences for how fat or heavy is the embodiment of their ideal. Some lipophiliacs appreciate just a "pleasingly plump" or zaftig (from the German and Yiddish for "succulent" or "juicy") body. Some lipophiliacs idealize BBWs (Big Beautiful Women) a weight range that can be as little as 20 libs overweight to even greater proportions. Many lipophiliacs most prefer a midrange of mildly obese, which perhaps can be quantified in a range of 175-250 pounds for a woman. But there is a strong culture of people who prefer SSBBWs (Super-Size BBWs) who are greatly obese. Many lipophiliacs appreciate women of all sizes -- including the non-obese -- but most ideally and greatly perfer fat women.
But in terms of gender distinction, it is worth noting thatwhile pre-antiquity commemorates the "Venus of Willendorf," there is no such celebration of male fat, as there has been of female and feminine fat in art, culture, and history. Thus "Rubenesque" women have become a meme for which there is really no male counterpart. Lipophilia is more predominantly the admiration and appreciation of fat women. The archetype of the Queen or Empress invites associations with Fat and Fatness.
In some African cultures, women are systematically fed to the point of fatness. (Blank, 2000).
