The original liking scale was a questionnaire developed by Zick Ruben in the late 1960s as a contrasting companion to his romantic love scale.

The liking scale attempted to assess the interpersonal attraction between the respondent and the liked person, both in terms of the positive feeling and the degree of similarity between them.
