Illumination is the light thrown on, and reflected from an object which allows us to see it. Illumination is generally thought of as referring to the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum, but also can include both infrared and ultraviolet light.
Psychologists are interested in illumination in as much as it affects visual perception.
