Laxative abuse is a form of drug abuse involving the overuse of laxatives It is potentially serious since it can lead to intestinal paralysis,[citation needed] Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS),[1] pancreatitis,[citation needed] renal failure,[2][3] and other problems.
