Laxative abuse is a form of drug abuse involving the overuse of laxatives It is potentially serious since it can lead to intestinal paralysis,[How to reference and link to summary or text] Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS),[1] pancreatitis,[How to reference and link to summary or text] renal failure,[2][3] and other problems.

Laxatives are often used to excess by people with an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa and bullimia.[citation needed]
