Dr. Jeffrey Young developed Schema focused therapy. The approach builds on developments in cognitive and behavior therapy, and combines it with ideas from object relations, and gestalt therapy into an integrated approach.
He is Founder and Director of the Cognitive Therapy Centers of New York and Connecticut, and the Schema Therapy Institute.
He worked with Beck on the development of the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale, a measure of cognitive therapist competence.

He attended Yale University for his first degree and his graduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania.

He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Aaron Beck, and stayed on to serve as Director of Research and Training.
