Interests are areas of thought or activity in which we become psychologically engaged and find intrinsically rewarding enough to spend time on. Interests include hobbies, sports, pastimes, and to some degree the regular choices we make in our daily activities.
To show an interest in something is to pay attention to it.
Measurement of interests
Edit
The assessment of interests can take a number of forms.
- Firstly there is the issue of the choice between focusing on observed behavior versus self report.
- Secondly whether the focus is on explicitly expressed interest or on interpretation and inferred interests.
- Thirdly whether the assessment uses tests or interest inventories
