The term inadequate personality is not currently a professionally approved term although it has been in the APA thesaurus in the past.
In common usage it suggests a personality style if not a personality disorder, characterised by a lack of life and social skills associated with emotional and physical instability, which leaves the person unable to cope with the stresses of life despite the fact that they are not diagnosed with a mental disorder. They lack coping skills, hardiness and resilience.
