Hyperthymia is a personality trait associated with cheerfulness, high energy levels and motivation. In its exaggerated form it is linked to excessive emotionality or excitability.

It is the opposite of dysthymia.

In the cyclothymic personality type these two states were thought to alternate.

It is to be distinguished from hypomania which was seen as a clinically severe expression of the personality trait, requiring treatment.
