Social Processes: Methodology · Types of test

People can fake bad (aka faking bad) in neuropsychological testing where they feel it will serve their interests. The opposite is known as fake bad.

So for example in psychometric assessment regarding legal claims for compensation for injury people may be tempted to skew their answers in a way they feel will show how badly they have been brain damaged, for example. To try to monitor for this tendency some symptom validity testing should be included in the test battery.

This may be seen as an aspect of malingering.
