External rotation (an aspect of lateral rotation) is rotation away from the center of the body, also known as extorsion.

  • Lateral rotator group
    • piriformis
    • gemellus superior
    • obturator internus

    • quadratus femoris
  • Sartorius
  • Obturator externus

• of leg at knee^[3]
  • Biceps femoris

• of eyeball (motion is also called "extorsion" or excyclotorsion)^[4]
  • Inferior rectus muscle
  • Inferior oblique muscle
