Experimenter expectations can be a factor in experimenter bias. This occurs when experimenters and experimental psychologists anticipate that a particular finding will confirm their hypothesis and, for example, misread instrumentation in a way that skews their findings. Cognitive processes of cognitive dissonance and self justification can lead to subsequent distortion of the findings.
