The epidemiology of drug use is an area into which a large amount of resources have been concentrated in order to establish the scale and type of drug use and to identify the supporting structures and attendant problems so that some attempt can be made to control the activity and ameliorate its impact (eg with regard to organised crime, human trafficking etc)
