Electronystagmography (ENG) is a computerized test of balance system function. It is used when assessing complaints of dizziness or vertigo. It measures the presence, intensity, and direction of eye movements during specific types of stimulation and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.

The test involves the monitoring of eye movements when wearing special goggles equipped with small cameras. Electrodes are placed around the eye to record electrical activity.

The results from the subtests helps to establish if a disorder is central related to brain function or peripherally related to disorders in the sense organs or connecting nerves.
