ESFJ (Extroverted Sensing Feeling Judging) is one of the sixteen personality types from personality type systems based on C.G. Jung, which best known are the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Keirsey Temperament Sorter and Socionics.

Referring to Keirsey ESFJs belong to the temperament of the Guardians and are called Provider.

In Socionics ESFjs belong to the club of the socials, the alpha Quadra and are named "Bonvivant" or Victor Hugo. Another notation for ESFj is ESE (which is an acronym for Ethical-Sensory Extratim, referring to the cognitive functions).

Descriptor[]

ESFJs are friendly and have a strong desire to be liked by other people. They are very sensitive and are hurt when others are indifferent to them.

General Traits[]

Strengths:

  • Outgoing
  • Friendly
  • Deeply affectionate and demonstrative
  • Enthusiastic
  • Patient
  • Empathetic
  • Lives to serve and will bend over backwards for other people
  • Surprisingly more open-minded than given credit for (Fe + Ne)

Weaknesses:

  • Easily-manipulated. Fe-dom + Ti inferior + Ni bankrupt makes this type super vulnerable to be manipulated as they aim to please others first without thinking of the person's logic and motivations. They're also sensing types and take things at face-value and don't have as many hunches about things.  ENFJs are less liable to be manipulated for this reason.
  • Cliqueish
  • Lacking a vision
  • Manipulative
  • Nosey
  • People-pleasing to an extreme
  • Lacks introspection
  • Insecure and their self-esteem is often based on how other people feel about them; too dependent
  • Can be prone to helicopter parenting
