Personality: Self concept · Personality testing · Theories · Mind-body problem

ENTJ (Extroverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging) is one of the sixteen personality types from personality type systems based on C.G. Jung, which best known are the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Keirsey Temperament Sorter and Socionics.

Referring to Keirsey ENTJs belong to the temperament of the Rationals and are called Fieldmarshals.

In Socionics ENTjs belong to the club of the researcher, the gamma Quadra and are named "Entrepreneur" or Jack London. Another notation for ENTj is LIE (which is an acronym for Logical-Intuitive Extratim, referring to the cognitive functions).

Descriptor[]

ENTJs lead with Te or extroverted thinking.  This function is the autopilot for the ENTJ.  Te is concerned with efficiency, facts, command and getting things done.  Next, is Ni or introverted intuition.  Ni is all about strategy, vision and looking ahead. Auxiliary Ni gives ENTJs their strategic bent, as these folks are likely to have 5 year, 10 year and 15 year plans.  They know what they want and they stick with it. No questions asked. Their tertiary is extroverted sensing or Se. Tertiary Se is neither super obvious nor is it super hard to miss either.  It is a noticable part of the ENTJ's personality and gives the ENTJ an action-oriented bent at times. Their Se can help them put their plans into action and ground their strong visions into reality.  It can also help the ENTJ live more in the present as opposed to having their heads in the clouds.  This function develops in early adulthood.  Lastly, the inferior function for the ENTJ would be introverted feeling or Fi.  Inferior Fi manifests in the ENTJ being completely detached from their feelings at least from an immediate angle.  The ENTJ feels things deeply, but would prefer to weather through whatever it is they are feeling and accomplish what they need to accomplish in the real world.  The ENTJ might even deny that they have feelings altogether and may get very angry with people who ask them how they feel or try to prod them and disrespect their boundaries. This function starts to develop around middle-age to senior years.

ENTJs are organized and career-focused. They have a vision and go for it without flinching or overplanning.  They have little tolerance for inefficiency and are often not aware of the feelings of others. The ENTJ is often described as the "field marshal" of the world-ENTJs thrive when in command and therefore are most likely to advance into seats of power and leadership.  The ENTJ would much prefer to lead rather than follow.  A common misconception about ENTJs is that they have to lead all the time when that simply isn't true.  The ENTJ would hand over the reins to someone who demonstrated more knowledge in an area so long as the ENTJ in question has at least a little bit of control or oversight tied to it.   For employers everywhere, this may make ENTJs appear to be arrogant when they simply want to get things done in the quickest way possible. ENTJs loathe procedures and meaningless obstacles that get in the way of achieving their goals in the now. They would rather streamline things then continue down a repetitive path. They may feel held back by xSTJs and other sensors because of this. This causes frustration and anger in the ENTJ as they will soldier on forward.

ENTJs and the Enneagram[]

Common[]

ENTJ 3w2: A much more charming and charismatic ENTJ. Highly goal-oriented with an added sense of warmth. Often resemble ENFJs.

ENTJ 3w4: This is the stereotypical ENTJ that you see written in the descriptions. Work and achieving goals are their life. They are efficiency whores. All about getting the job done. They are the most likely of all types besides ESTJs to climb the corporate ladder quickly with their strong work ethic and penchant for success. If they are not careful they may come across as arrogant, condescending and dry in communication.

Moderate[]

ENTJ 6w5: Contrary to popular opinion, ENTJ 6s are much more common than they are given credit for as 6s are the most common type. They are more intellectual and strategic with a more anxious and pensive demeanor. This ENTJ is less likely to be a leader and is more cooperative and more of a team player but they are certainly capable of leading.

ENTJ 6w7: Like the ENTJ 6w5 but friendlier and more of a buddy. They have a more childish edge to them.

Rare[]

ENTJ 8s are much rarer than given credit for. Why is that you may ask? Well, for one, 8s are the rarest type in the population and are body-based type. They are by nature not likely to be too intuitive. This combo is rare not only from a statistical standpoint but from a definitions and heuristics standpoint as well. A majority of the ENTJ 8s that you may see are either 3s, 6s or not ENTJs.

ENTJ 8w7: This is the most powerful combination in all of typology. The ENTJ being the result-oriented and strategic powerhouse that they are combines their desire to not only control but expand their control over their environment. They are a highly productive and action-oriented type. Thus, ENTJs of this subtype are likely to steamroll and destroy their opponents or obstacles in the way without much consideration. They are balanced in their need for action and planning.

ENTJ and socionics correlations[]

This is something worth noting. A lot of people make the mistake of falsely equating MBTI and socionics and doing correlations as if they are the same system. They fail to separate the two and treat them as separate vessels or systems. This results in people automatically assuming that for example, ENTJ must be LIE in socionics even though that is not always a guarantee and even though the two systems address two different things. In fact, many ENTJs identify with SLE in socionics.
