Drug agonism occurs where on drug enhances the actions of another. This may be a mechanism in drug overdose.
The agonistic effect may occur due to:
- One drug mimicing the effects of the other
- It may interfere with the normal physiological processes of deactivation of the other drug in the body.
- It may, for example, enable the retention of the other drug in the body
