Dogmatism is a personality trait associated with a tendency to habitually, arrogantly assert opinions, sometimes with little regard to evidence. This may be an aspect of authoritarianism. Its opposite may be openmindedness

The dogmatic personality style is characterised by oversimplified thinking, resistance to changing attitudes or beliefs, and appealing to authority to justify their beliefs. The personality may have its origins in childhood, caused by anxieties linked to the parent-child relationship [citation needed] or modeling from parents [citation needed].
