In various psychological conditions there are changes in the level of consciousness of sufferers, either as a result of internal psychological processes or due to physiological aspects of their condition.

• Disorientation: orientation in time, place, or person is disturbed
• Clouding of consciousness: incomplete clarity of mind with disturbances in perception and attitudes
• Stupor: lack of reaction to and unawareness of surroundings
• Delirium: confused, bewildered, restless, disoriented reaction associated with fear and hallucinations
• Coma: profound degree of unconsciousness
• Coma vigil: coma in which the patient appears to he asleep but ready to be aroused
• Twilight state: disturbed consciousness with hallucinations
• Dreamlike state: often used as a synonym for complex partial seizure or psychomotor epilepsy
• Somnolence: abnormal drowsiness
