The dichhaptic technique or dichaptic technique involves the presentation of different tactile stimuli to each hidden hand in order to explore lateral dominance of brain function. Using, for example, letters vs arbitary shapes it can be shown that left hemisphere dominance occurs for linguistic and sequential processing but right hemisphere dominance occus for spatial interpretation. This is because the sensory receptors of the hands are linked to the opposite hemisphere's postcentral gyrus
