Developmental delay occurs where the usual expected pattern of development occurs latter than anticipated. This may occur as a normal variation in the stages of development or as the result of illness or trauma. Often the delay is followed by a period of renewed development and the process results in a satisfactory conclusion. Occasional the delay may be proplonged and result in developmental disabilities
