Emeritus Professor Derek Ashworth Denton AC[1] (born 27 May 1924) is an Australian scientist renowned for his research exploring the nature of consciousness in animals.

He is the founder and Director Emeritus of the Howard Florey Institute,[2] Honorary Professor at the University of Melbourne, a consultant at the Baker Research Institute. Denton's latest book is The Primordial Emotions: The Dawning of Consciousness.[3]

Personal lifeEdit

Derek Denton has been married since 1953 to the dancer Dame Margaret Scott.[4][5]
