Client rights or patient rights recognise that they should be informed about the benefits and risks of all treatment options so they can make informed choices about agreeing or rejecting treatment
This concept is particularly important in the treatment of populations that have restricted abilities to exercise these rights(the mentally ill, learning disabled, children, the terminally ill etc), and who in the past may have had these rights abused. They may require the appointment of a guardian to protect their interest.
