Body rocking, is the often repetetive movements of the body backwards and forwards from the waist.
This is often taken to be a comfort, soothing behavior in all ages, and also a behavior that focuses the mind and [[distraction|distracts] or maintains sensory input and a sense of body awareness and thus existential integrity.
It was a feature of instituionalised behaviour in psychiatric institutions before the advent of psychiatric medication, of which it may now be a [side effect]]
