August Aichorn was an Austrian educator who developed Heilpedagogie, an approach to helping children with learning difficulties in Vienna in the 1940's.
His clinical teaching model, was brought to America from Europe in the 1940s by pioneers like Marianne Frostig, Katrina DeHirsch and others and lead to the development of Education Therapy in the US.
Aichorn and Siegfried Bernfeld, who both had practical experience of dealing with emotionally disturbed children, mentored Anna Freud as she developed her early ideas.
