The term asthenic type has had two meanings in psychology:
- As a general term it describes a person who is chronically exhausted, with low energy levels and easily fatigued.
- It has also had a more specific meaning in the context of Ernst Kretschmer's classification of character where the asthenic type was described as lean and slender in physique and prone to developing schizophrenia.
