Aphagia is the inability or lack of motivation to eat.

This may be caused by:
- damage to the glossopharyngeal nerve or hypoglossal nerve which makes swallowing difficult.
- damage to the lateral hypothalmic feeding centre
- Psychogenic mechanisms
