People with poor mental health, alongside their physical disorder, on admission to a general hospital, have longer hospital stays than control subjects. In a study of 321 respondents who completed the Mini-mental state examination, the Zung Depression Inventory, SCL-90 and the Karnofsky Performance Status Scale showed a significant correlation between psychological comorbidity and length of stay
